The Heavy Laden Bookshelf

This blog is devoted primarily to the books that I am reading. The topics range from history to literature to theology and whatever else stacks up on the flat surfaces of my life.

  1. Interesting list of economic books. Now that I have retired from Genoa Central (that’s all I have retired from as yet), I hope to change my reading list from Hawking’s and Greene’s cosmological theories to a lighter subject. Economics? I never guessed that my daughter, Melissa, through you would inspire me to new studies. I think I will start with the comic book.

    • Alan and Melissa, I enjoyed spending some time in thinking back through these books. I always enjoy hearing from my extended Genoa connections. I need to read and reread more in this area. My reading advice is to enjoy whatever it is you are reading. Sometimes, however, the greatest joy a book contains is its ending. Another book I have and need to look into is titled WHEN HELPING HURTS: HOW TO ALLEVIATE POVERTY WITHOUT HURTING THE POOR AND YOURSELF by Steve Corbett and others. Sometimes Christians feel guilty over the extremes that capitalism makes possible. This results in giving and helping others in ways that are not at all helpful. I feel even more need to read that book myself.
